Mosaic Seahorse

Are you having a nice week?  I can not believe how mild our winter is here this year!  I probably shouldn't write this, but we haven't had much snow at all this year.  We had a huge snowstorm (about 2 feet of snow) on Halloween so I thought for sure it was a sign of a snowy winter but that hasn't been the case.  Less snow = less shoveling and plowing so I'm certainly not complaining.

Design Team member Dawn, sent me a picture of some mosaic work she did on our SEAHORSE shape.  I've always been so fascinated with mosaics because I find them so pretty and cool that you can take broken dishes and other pieces and make something so pretty!  Don't you love what she created and the pretty colors she chose?!  I sure do.

If you're friends with my on Facebook, then you've probably already seen this picture.  But I just had to share it here too. :)  My sister took this picture a couple weeks ago and I thought it was too cute. I can't believe my kids are growing up so much.  They'll be 2 and 4 in April (all April birthdays) and I can hardly believe it.  Have a fun week everyone!

Fabric Covered Wooden Butterfly Tutorial

Happy Valentine's Day, my friends!  I left little goodies for my kiddos 

on the table as they haven't woken up just yet.  I'm excited to see their 

happy faces.  I hope you have a special love day too.

I'm really excited to share a tutorial that Design Team member, Laurie  

created with our {butterfly collection}.  Aren't they puuuurttttyy??! 

I just love them so much!  The red and pink with black contrast are 

really striking to me.

SIWL Butterfly Tutorial

These butterfly shapes are adorable and they come in a set of five  
from large to small! Right now I'm all about fabric and I wanted to  
make these girlie and fun for Valentine's Day, so I used lots of pink  
and red.

First, pick 5 different fabrics that you think go well together. Lay  
the butterfly shape on top of the fabric and trace around it. I use a  
black ballpoint pen so I can see it well. Then cut out around the  
shape, cutting just within your tracing mark. Do this for all five  
pieces, alternating your fabric colors in a pattern you like. Don't  
worry too much if your fabric is a bit wrinkled, the glue will take  
care of this problem. 

I then take my Aleen's glue and squeeze a thin layer of glue directly  
onto the shape. 

I use a bit of scrap cardboard to spread it out in a  
thin film, making sure to get it all the way to the edges. Then I  
place the fabric down on top, matching the edges first and then  
smoothing out the center until it's flat and there's no bubbles of air  
underneath.

Try not to go overboard on the glue or it will seep through to the  
front of the fabric. A little works great.

Then apply your fabric to the rest of your shapes. After you get them  
all covered it's time for the fun part - embellishing! 

I used this really cute fabric that had words like: "adore," "love" and "pretty"  
printed on it and it seemed fitting for this project. I also used some  
flowers, buttons and other embellishments, including a silver frame  
that I really like. I adhered most of the embellishments with glue or  
glue dots.  I loved the way they turned out! :)

Butterfly Wall Collection

Happy February!!  It is the shortest month but sometimes it feels so long because we usually have a ton of snow by now.  This year we've been pretty lucky and haven't much at all.  Just enough snow in the back yard so my kids can slide down our small hill and love it!  I actually love the month of February. It's my birthday month for one thing.  But it's also the month of love!  I love little Valentine cards and little presents and now I get to do school Valentine's with the kids.  We aren't doing anything fancy but they are very excited because their Valentine's include pencils and erasers. :)  No candy allowed so we had to do something fun.

I'm SO thrilled to show off our new {butterfly collection} available in our Etsy shop.  It's such a sweet set of shapes and the Design Team has yet again out done themselves!!  I mean seriously!!!  Check these out...

Pamela created some dimension with her layers of butterflies.  The buttons and coordinating papers are so pretty.

Raechelle's are so soft, pretty and SPRINGY!!!  I love the flowers she added.
