on Being Home...

Our friends Kari and Kijsa ordered our house trio a few months back. Read along for their art story (taken from their inspiring blog) and enjoy their creativity...

Being Home…Two meet…the beginning of something special with just a stolen glance, a slight smile. A young girl and boy hold hands, dreaming of what is , and what is to be…An “I do,” a threshold crossed...home has begun. Passing in the narrow hallway, the rooms so cozy in the first home shared…just the two of them.

A cry breaks..It’s a girl!…The tiny house has grown to three…now four…laughter fills the halls…tripping over tiny obstacles with roly-poly wheels…days and nights filled with bustle in the now larger hallways...

Growing pains are felt by both…beautiful children slowly slipping from our grasp as they chip away at youth, a path created just for them...

Two seems not so full now, as the leaves of life begin to fall. Laughter still comes, as quiet smiles tell stories that need not be spoken. A home well shared, memories crammed to overflowing in each crevice. The hallways are smaller yet again…roly-poly toys of youth have been unpacked…just outside tiny hands reach to knock, knowing inside love waits for them…

When we begin to decorate an interior...we know the personal touches and memories of the family not only should be included, but are necessary to transform a house into a home...the same was done with each board...

House One: SIWL wooden house, wood board, acrylic and oil glazes. Old house number from our home, vintage buttons (all buttons discovered at a tag sale on Cape Cod).

House Two: SIWL wooden house, wood board, Found frame, paper, acrylic and oil glazes, four vintage buttons represent our family- the true definition of our home.

House Three: SIWL wooden house, wood board, acrylic and oil glazes, paper from vintage children’s book, “Where does everyone Go?” by Ailene Fisher, 1961, drawer knocker from old cabinet.

Wow - love the treatment on these houses - so different from how I decorated them. I love that everyone's take is unique!
